Pot and I did some serious work using Text Block Writer today. Hubby had band practice so I was able to work uninterrupted all evening. And the good news is that I’m starting to have something that resembles a plot! Woo hoo! There are still a lot of gaping holes, but things are coming together. I have the first 3 chapters planned out and a lot of other stuff outlined, and a whole bunch of blocks of questions yet to be answered. It’s kind of exciting to think that I will be able to pick a block and write it up and know what I need to DO in the story. What a concept! So anyway, my goal of lots of plotting was met. Time for bed.

Can you fill us in on how you’re using it? I see three columns–which at first I thought might match up nicely with a 3-Act structure. But then there are 10 pages. How are you using the columns vs. pages to organize? The 10 pages I do like–I see this as 10 blocks or chunks of story. But then I don’t know what to do with the columns themselves. Can you add more columns to a page? I didn’t really see how.
Ah, never mind on the column question. I found the utility panel. Still not sure logically how to break down those columns vs. pages, though.
Pot is using a page per chapter and then the pages at the end (because you can add as many as you want from the Page Actions menu) for notes based on various aspects of the book. I’m not so organized as that. I pretty well write my blocks, stick them in the holding area or the block shelf (block shelf if they are done, holding area if I need to answer a question or finish something), until I’m ready to put them in order to form a timeline, then I’m just putting them in order with separator blocks for chapter divisions. By default I keep the finished blocks that go in the actual columns minimized since I can just scroll over to make a bubble pop up with the text. I find that easier than constantly opening and scrolling to read the full contents. I imagine as my story gets more detailed I’ll expand onto other pages to do the same.
