Guiltless Sunday

It’s Sunday, the proverbial day of rest.  Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I took a Sunday off.  Since I started this second teaching gig on top of the Evil Day Job, I’ve been busting my chops trying to finish course development, lecture writing, test writing, etc., which has been hampered by multiple illnesses, impromptu road trips, and assorted other interruptions.  It means that I usually spend 4-6 hours on Saturday AND Sunday to get things done.  On top of the regular housekeeping, laundry, cooking, bill paying, life living stuff that everybody has to do.

Quite frankly, I’m tired.

I spent 6 hours grading truly awful papers yesterday (finished with that, thank God), just finished the continuing education course that is always a requirement for me each semester, and now I really ought to be relocating to my office at work to expand the last 2 lectures of the semester and record the last 3 of them.  Really, I should.  I’ve only got one more lecture already prepared to get me through the next week.

Instead, I am blowing it off.  Yep, that’s right.  I, Mrs. Responsible, am blowing off getting work done ahead of time in order to enjoy the fine weather, drink the last hot chocolate of the season (to go along with the 51 degree weather outside) topped with a handful of the homemade marshmallows that my truly awesome Paula-Deen-in-training neighbor made me for Christmas (they’ve been living in the freezer), and I am going to read.  DH is off at his dad’s working on his motorcyle, and he took the dogs, so the house is EMPTY.  And by God, I’m going to enjoy myself and not feel guilty about it.

I may kick myself come next weekend when I really DO have to finish all that other stuff, but for now I’m off to dive back into Kelley Armstrong’s Stolen.

  1. Hear, hear. Nothing wrong with taking some time for yourself once in awhile and from the sound of it, you deserve it. Hope it was well enjoyed. 😀

  2. It WAS. I finished reading Kelley Armstrong’s Stolen, which has been hanging out on my living room table for almost a month waiting for time!
