I am, as I type, sitting here listening to Forsaken By Shadow on audio, and I’m grinning ear to ear. I’m so stupid, crazy excited about this, I just can’t tell you. It’s narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and Tamara Daniels of Perfect Voices.
Perfect Voices is this relatively new company that prides itself on offering affordable audiobook production to indies. They have a system of tiers available with varying costs per audio hour. The lowest tier is the cheapest, with the most limitations to available narrators. The narrators then get a higher percentage of the royalties until the flip point (where they have then made back their regular rates) is met, and then you flip to receiving the standard royalty rate on audio. You can read more info on how it all works here.
I picked the lowest tier (as that is what’s in my budget), so it’s costing me about $200 (since FBS is a novella, it’s only about 4 hours) to have it done, and it’s going to get me into Audible, Amazon, iTunes, OverDrive, Books on Board, iAmplify, Horror/Fantasy Drive-Thru and others. No idea how long it will take me to hit the flip point, but I’m not really worried about that. I didn’t do this with the expectation of making huge money (though hey, if I make some, great). I’m doing it because audiobooks are huge and it will be an additional venue to draw people into my world.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to Embry.
