Happy Birthday Red! and Midweek #ROW80 Update

Red turns 1 year old today.

It’s done well in its first year, passing the 3k mark sometime a month or two ago (I confess, I haven’t been watching that closely).  3,000 copies sold used to be the benchmark for success in the traditional world.  Not sure if that still holds, but it’s definitely respectable, and I’ve earned out in a year, about what I’d probably have gotten in an advance for it.  I’ve been fortunate to have many many positive reviews and people who are happy to point people to this book and say “Read it!”  Not bad at all for a total genre jump from what I’d built my platform on.  So Happy Birthday Red!

Things are going well on the writing front.  I have written all but 3 days so far this month, and I’m only about 1k shy of last month’s total, so I’m definitely on track to exceed last month’s word count.  I wound up with 385 Sunday, 601 Monday and a whopping 1183 Tuesday, which made me want to stand up and dance on the table, as I haven’t had that good a writing day in over a month.  Plus I got to write A Moment between my hero and heroine, and that’s always fun.  Those plot holes I have in Act 3 are starting to fill themselves in with logical next steps, so I’m celebrating that too.  I feel like I am–dare I say it?–getting back on track.  :knocks on wood and braces for impact of next disaster:

  1. Happy birthday, Red!!! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but then I remember reading it in the airport on my way back from Chicago, it’s a yearly thing, and I’m about to go back there again next week.

I’m glad you’re getting back on track. And stop thinking about the next disaster! Maybe things will be normal for a while. :)

Congrats on the success of your novel! Ride that feeling into your current work. Writing every day is always difficult, but driving toward that goal makes it all worth it. I’m so glad for you that your plotholes are filling in, as I have some coming in my WIP that I’m not so sure about yet.

Forget disasters, and ride the success!

    Congratulations!

Oooh, congratulations on the year mark! 3000 copies is wonderful, especially since there’s bound to be 3,000 more…and more…and more! And it’s even better that the latest WIP seems to be going pretty well, too. Keep up the great work! Sometimes, disasters are inevitable, so that’s why we’ve got to milk these good swings for everything they’re worth.

(Sings off key…) Happy Birthday to Red! Happy Birthday to Red! Happy Birthday awesome book…

Sounds like you’ve got reason to celebrate! Once I fall off the rails, it’s torturous to get back on them. I took a semi-vacation last month that turned into a full-blown work-stoppage, and I’m only now feeling half-good about my work.

Happy Birthday Red! And congrats to you, Kait, that’s fabulous on your sales results for Red so far! I read and loved the book and will continue to rave about it for you. My sis is reading it next, part of her bday present. Hoorah again! I’m so excited for you.

A belated Happy Birthday to Red and here’s to many more!
