Sunday Summary and #ROW80 Update

I am out of town visiting one of my BFFs from college days, so there’s not a lot to report since Wednesday.

I’ve either been driving or hanging out, so no words since a handful on Thursday.

I finished listening to Libba Bray’s The Diviners on the drive up, which I enjoyed, though there area  LOT of unanswered questions that left me REALLY irked that the sequel isn’t out yet (and given the incredible level of detail in these books and the research that must be required to write them, I suspect that won’t be soon either).  It was an interesting book in that I didn’t actually like the heroine.  I found her to be annoying and foolish and irresponsible–and kind of a flapper alcoholic, which isn’t an awesome thing in a YA, though I’m sure that it is fairly accurate for the times (the book is set during Prohibition) for some people.  Not that she didn’t have SOME redeeming qualities, but  I just didn’t connect with her.  I did love a lot of the other characters, and after 18 hours of listening to the narrator (who was quite good), I feel the compulsion to say, “And how!” a lot.

I’ve got Kendare Blake’s Girl of Nightmares for the drive home.  I really enjoyed Anna Dressed in Blood, which I read last year while I was competing against her in the first DABWAHA bracket.  It had the flavor of Supernatural that I liked, and I didn’t have too much trouble imagining Cas as a sort of young Dean figure.  So I’m looking forward to seeing how Blake is going to resolve all this.   That one isn’t quite long enough to get me home, so I’ll probably end up going back and finishing The Name of the Star, which I got maybe halfway through and haven’t come back to yet.

Or I might just take the last few hours in quiet to think.  I’ve got a creation story to think up and a pantheon to build.

  1. It drives me mad when I get into a series and then have to wait. It’s great when you find something like that.
I have an hour in the car for the drive into work and that’s when I usually come up with ideas and solutions (the point where I can’t write it down typically.)
    Have a good week. x

  2. Got your back Kait! I hope you are OK. We need to find a way to give you more support so you can have holidays, sick days and not be tied down. While few see it, I know ROW80 takes a lot of work behind the scenes. If I can do anything for you, let me know. In the meantime, I am visiting everyone and saying:

Hi……, it looks like Kait has hit some trouble and we have no mid-week check-in. So no one is left out, please come over to our Facebook group and leave a link to your check-in post and we will be over to visit. The page address is https://www.facebook.com/groups/row80/ Alternatively, email me at katiecrcole@gmail.com and I’ll pass your post on. I know Facebook isn’t everyone’s cup of tea!

Should we have no Linky on Sunday, we’ll just keep working this way until things sort themselves out.

    Cheers!
