Midweek #ROW80 Check-in

Forgive me muse, I have not written in a week.

However, the first half of Riven did get “Hammered” and I got some GREAT ideas for some additions and small changes that make motivations and such make more sense.  It is in considerably better shape than DOTH (not surprising, as it’s a familiar world and the kind of thing I tend to do well).  Mostly by the time we finished discussing all of that, my writing block was over and there wasn’t an opportunity to implement anything last night.  But I feel really good about how it’s going, so I plan to dive in this evening when I get home.

I also had another idea for a Mirus short story that I’m noodling in the background.  To that end I reread some of my old stuff in that universe (which I could do because I’ve been awake since 3:30 this morning for no good reason–WANT NAP) and made a few notes on that this morning on my phone while hanging out in the vet’s office with Daisy.  She’s under the weather this week.  Nothing serious, just the doggy crud.  I have to admit it’s been really great to come back to these characters and this world.  They’re such…FUN.

I’ve been doing some other reading lately, nibbling at some UF and PR short stories, which I’m finding to be WAY better than the crap we had to read in school (seriously…with all that, no wonder so many American teens don’t read–they have it totally ruined for them by English class!).  And they’re about what my brain is up to with all the drains on my brain cells lately.  The EDJ drama has died down for now and I’m finally caught up on grading (a minor miracle, I assure you), but I still have lectures to write, the project from hell to close out, and another HUGE project coming down the pike at work.  I find this kind of thing incredibly frustrating–this whole not having enough brain cells left over for what *I* want to do.  But I’m trying to just do what I can.  That is, after all, all I can do.

  1. My job is starting to get busier right now since spring is around the corner. I know what you mean about not having brain cells left over.

I honestly don’t see how you keep up the pace you do. I’m glad Riven is doing well. There’s something, I guess, about writing in familiar territory. I hope things are moving along with DOTH, too. That’s one I can’t WAIT to read.
