Midweek #ROW80 Check-In and An Important Petition about DRM

Is it Wednesday already?  Don’t get me wrong, I’m cool with that.  It’s that much closer to a weekend when I DON’T have to get out of my nice cozy bed and into the cold morning air.  But it feels like the week is passing FAST.

I was on the road for work Sunday and Monday.  Got home Monday afternoon and knocked out nearly 1200 words (amazing what I can sit down and rip out when my brain hasn’t been occupied with other stupid crap for hours earlier in the day).  Yesterday…not to much.  Just over 300.  I spent all day in a fog, unable to really wake up, and had such a parade of people through my office yesterday that I didn’t get much of anything actually DONE.  But I am down to ONE LAST SURVEY.  ONE on the Project from Hell.  And then we can start close out of the active phase and shift over into the analysis and paper writing phase, which doesn’t require me to leave my happy little work cave.  Huzzah!

I’ve been making steady progress on my toolkits for both my plot bunny and for the planned next project.  Working on character arc stuff this week, which is always a challenge for me.  Susan always rips this stuff out and it seems so brilliant and OBVIOUS…but it never occurs to me.  At least not without a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.  And then what she says always sounds so much better anyway.  She is an Olympian at character arc.

I did one of my Spartacus workouts this morning.  I think it’s the first workout I’ve had in a week or two that I actually exerted myself.  And I had to push to make myself DO it.  I’ve been in this place since the holidays where I just…don’t feel like working hard, don’t feel like exerting myself.  I’ve been working out still, but my easy workouts–biking and hooping and light weights while watching TV.  Probably because, honestly, I feel really tired and exhausted most of the time.  One of my friends thinks I have seasonal affective disorder.  I don’t think I’m depressed (though, God knows I’ve been missing the sunshine–we’ve had SO MUCH RAIN this winter).  Just tired and have been operating at 150% for SO. FLIPPING.  LONG.

But I’ve made a couple of decisions.  I’m taking an official hiatus from my food blog (I’ve been on an unofficial one for a while because I just keep forgetting to post).  And I think (for now) I’m going to stop running.  I just…don’t feel like it.  It didn’t strip the weight off like it did when I was 20 (imagine that).  And while I really got SOMETHING out of it last year (possibly physically running away from the stresses in my life), right now I’m not getting that.  I haven’t been running on non rainy days because it’s cold.  And because it’s Mississippi, it won’t be long before it’s too damned hot.  And I just…don’t wanna.  So I’m going to look into getting another workout DVD along the lines of Spartacus (I’d like to have 3 grand total) to do on my previous running days, then have 2 days a week of easy cardio I can do while watching TV.

And in other news, Chuck Wendig posted about a very important petition to the White House to protect readers’ rights.  Anybody who’s been around me for any length of time knows that I think DRM is evil and stupid and useless.  So go read the post, sign the petition.  And spread the word.

  1. I’m sorry you’re feeling so tired. I felt that way for a long time, and you know why. I hope yours isn’t related to a health problem like mine was. It’s probably just stress and fatigue from working too hard, but if you suspect ANYTHING is wrong, please have yourself checked out.

If running isn’t doing it for you, then I think it really is a good idea to switch to something else. At least when you’re doing videos, you don’t freeze in the winter and burn up in the summer. Plus, videos are more fun than running.

I agree…DRM is evil. I’ll pop over and check this out.

  2. I know what you mean… Wednesday snuck up on me quickly this week. Sounds like you are making progress.

The Spartacus workout… that sounds a bit scary and intense. Good for you. And I’m with you on running. I ran my first 13.1 race last September, and I was keeping up with the running even after. Then I had a 3-week long flu in January (with two hospital visits), and I couldn’t run. Now it’s like starting all over. And, like you, it wasn’t pulling off the weight. Can’t decide if I’m going to take it back up or not…

Hope you have a great end of week!

  3. Yeah, I would be careful pushing yourself when you are exhausted. Hard exercise stresses the body, which is generally good for it, but not if you already have it pushed to breaking point with exhaustion. Make sure you are doing something, but keep it light and aerobic. I highly recommending dancing in your PJ’s while singing along to Glee when no one else is home.
