Sunday Summary

It’s weird not to be making a ROW80 update.  But Round 3 is over and Round 4 doesn’t start until October 7th.

I’ve been up since 6:45.  This is not what I consider a reasonable hour to be conscious on a weekend, but after I fed the dogs their breakfast, I couldn’t go back to bed, so I spent the morning catching up on a backlog of email, lifting weights, going for a walk, starting a batch of vegetable stock, starting potato soup for supper, clearing the dishes, starting laundry, and otherwise preparing to dive into the scene in Be Careful that’s been giving me trouble all week.  I have one goal today: FINISH THE SCENE.

It’s been a really big plotting week for me.  Despite the siren song of Anything But Love, the launch of Riven has really given me a clear view of where I stand with my platform after such a long time off.  Not quite dead in the water, but paddling with a broken board instead of a motor.  Don’t get me wrong, it will gain traction eventually, but this is bearing out exactly what I expected.  So the sensible thing for me to do is to wait on the contemporary romance (other than Be Careful because I’m already halfway through with it), which is comfort food of a writing variety, and do some heavy focus on getting the ball rolling again with the work that gained me my initial fanbase–Mirus.  And YA.  Two separate (and only somewhat overlapping) fanbases that I intend to try to bring together with my next project.  2014 is going to be the year of the serial for me.  We’ll see how it turns out.  What I intend is ambitious and potentially really freaking awesome.

I sat down to work out a production schedule, and by the time I listed not even HALF the projects clamoring for attention in my brain, I had hypothetical production dates listed out a full ten+ years and spanning…46 novels.  WITHOUT coming up with anything else in the meantime.  That’s conservatively 3.5 to 5 MILLION words.  Since that made me start hyperventilating, I closed it and decided we’ll just focus on the next year and see where we are.

“Don’t you ever worry you’ll run out of ideas?”

  1. Okay, you win. I sat down the other day and plotted out time-wise how long it would take me to write the novels in my head (at least the ones that are more than a random thought) and it took me into 2015 (and that’s an ambitious estimate) for six books. But 46 books?! Girl, you are amazing! Good luck on getting everything done, and know that even if I don’t comment much, I’m cheering you on. We Foreword writers have to stick together, right? 🙂

  2. I worry that I’ll run out of ideas, but they just keep coming. 🙂

What is it that you think kept you from publishing for so long until recently? Fear? Lack of focus? Discouragement? Because I’m struggling. I’m not sure why. I can’t make myself WANT to write except for bursts of energy at work when I CAN’T write.

Btw, I’m almost finished with Riven. My FAVORITE Mirus so far!
