Forsaken By Shadow in Audio

I am, as I type, sitting here listening to Forsaken By Shadow on audio, and I’m grinning ear to ear.  I’m so stupid, crazy excited about this, I just can’t tell you.  It’s narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and Tamara Daniels of Perfect Voices.

Perfect Voices is this relatively new company that prides itself on offering affordable audiobook production to indies.  They have a system of tiers available with varying costs per audio hour.  The lowest tier is the cheapest, with the most limitations to available narrators.  The narrators then get a higher percentage of the royalties until the flip point (where they have then made back their regular rates) is met, and then you flip to receiving the standard royalty rate on audio.  You can read more info on how it all works here.

I picked the lowest tier (as that is what’s in my budget), so it’s costing me about $200 (since FBS is a novella, it’s only about 4 hours) to have it done, and it’s going to get me into Audible, Amazon, iTunes, OverDrive, Books on Board, iAmplify, Horror/Fantasy Drive-Thru and others.  No idea how long it will take me to hit the flip point, but I’m not really worried about that.  I didn’t do this with the expectation of making huge money (though hey, if I make some, great).  I’m doing it because audiobooks are huge and it will be an additional venue to draw people into my world.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to Embry.

  1. I’m so excited for you on this… and a little bit jealous that you beat me to it. I’ve been waffling about what I’m going to do as far as audio for Blood Lust.

When will your book be up at Audible? I’ll totally get it with one of my credits. I can’t wait to hear it narrated!

    1. They’re still finishing up post processing, but I’ll absolutely be letting people know when it’s available.

I’ve been really happy with the results.

  2. Congrats on the audiobook. 🙂 I took a look at the site, but I don’t really like the way the pricing/royalty stuff is set up. I’ve got my eye on a different group that does it cheaper and will give me Master Resale Rights, so I own the master outright, no royalty splitting or anything (and for one of my 85K word novels, it would set me back about $1700, but to own the rights? It’d be worth it for me).

I’m also still trying to decide if an audiobook is, ultimately, worth the expense, especially for M/M erotic romance titles. *chuckles* I’m not sure how many people are actually out there listening to that sort of thing, you know?

Still, yay for you! 😀 I’m glad it turned out so great for you!

  3. I’m so excited for you! So when you get this done, do they get you on the audio sites such as Audible, or do you have to do that all yourself?

    1. I ALWAYS have audiobooks going in my car. LOVE THEM. If we had a bigger house where noise didn’t carry, I expect I’d listen while I cooked too.

      1. I can’t listen without headphones while I cook and clean, between the noise from everyone else and the unsuitable for all audiences nature of some of the stuff I read. But I do wear headphones around the house and it works really well.

    1. I’m really pleased with what I’ve listened to so far. There’s only one section of dialogue that needs re-recording (I forgot there was a bit of Cajun French and my narrator wasn’t sure on how to pronounce it). It’s really trippy to listen to this professional recording and think “Holy crap! I wrote that!”
