Ask And Ye Shall Receive

I subscribe to Notes From the Universe. These are fun little thought provoking, inspirational emails dropped conveniently into my inbox each day. Well earlier this week I got this:

Ask any question, Kathleen, just before you sleep, and it will be answered. Actually, you can ask any question, any time you like, and you’ll be answered, but mornings your “hearing” is often best.

I meant to blog about it earlier this week, but have been busy and just haven’t gotten around to it until now. Anyway, I thought this was a good practice to apply to writing and one I frequently already try to employ. Pot and I have a habit of trying to discuss the next day’s scenes each night before we go to bed, the idea being that as we sleep whatever questions we’re trying to answer will work themselves out by morning. Pot often used to write in the mornings for that reason because her “hearing” was best then. That’s generally never been my time (that whole “I’m NOT a morning person” thing), but I have found it useful to think about what questions I need to answer before I go to bed because whenever my brain does kick into gear, the answer is often there. It is, I suppose, a testament to the power of the subconscious and the fact that our brains are always plotting and working out details to the story even when it’s not forefront in our minds. Which begs the question–as writers, are we working 24/7 jobs? Hmmm…

Anyway, what about the rest of you? Do you have a time of day that’s better for your “hearing?”
