Well I didn’t wait 24 hours like I’d promised myself. I justified the purchase of Write Way Pro as my reward to myself for finishing the first draft of HiS–a cheeseburger and a couple of new books were kind of a poor celebration. Not that I had to work hard to justify the purchase. I’m game for most anything that I believe will improve my ability to write, even if it’s just through organization. I’ve officially opened my first WWP file for Draft 2 of HiS and started adding in scenes. I love having the scratch pad where I can throw random ideas for scenes without knowing exactly where they’re going yet. I was having such a good time playing with it last night (and trying to figure out how to make all the other tabs appear, which I eventually did), I only got 78 words in for NovelPI. As I was going to sleep, I figured out what happened next, and I wrote it this morning before caffeine, so I’m totally counting that as yesterday’s words (362).
Also contributing to my lack of words last night was the fact that we were watching The Ugly Truth. Usually I can tune out enough between interesting scenes of TV in order to get my first draft words in. Not during this movie. It was a non-stop cringefest. Kathryn Higel put Meg Ryan’s faux orgasm in When Harry Met Sally to shame. I was weeping I was laughing so hard at the remote controlled massaging underwear. My number one complaint about this movie was that Gerard Butler didn’t use his Scottish accent. It’s just wrong, WRONG, I tell you! It is a moral imperative that he use that God given, knee-melting accent. I’m just sayin’.
I’m working on getting a paper formatted in APA style for journal submission today. That’ll prevent me from being particularly productive on any front, as I’ll inevitably spend a large volume of time cursing the entire APA committee for their anal retentive, obsessive compulsive habits and terrible taste in table formatting (HOW can removing all the lines from a table and double spacing it be a GOOD thing? Seriously!). But I’ll keep plugging away at the novella, adding scenes to my updated draft outline of HiS, and working my way through reading Covet, which I am so far enjoying, though it wasn’t quite what I was expecting.
Must go squeeze in a session on the ministepper with weights. There will be ice cream cake for a friend’s birthday this weekend, and I need to earn it. Not to mention the homemade Chinese food of epic feast proportions…
