Sunday Summary and #ROW80 Update

  1. I did not get around to posting yesterday.  Part of it is that I’ve had a massive carpal tunnel flare up, and I have been trying to somewhat limit computer use the last few days while I run around in a brace.  So my typing had to go toward WIP work.
  2. We also had our first showing of the house since the buyer pulled out.  The realtor called while I was at the grocery store, which meant I had to send frantic text to hubby and then come home and clean like crazy.  We were getting ready to load the truck with some stuff that had come out of the attic to go to storage when the roofer and his crew showed up to put the shingles and stuff on the roof for Monday’s job (given it was 87 yesterday at that time instead of 100, I didn’t blame them).  So the load didn’t get taken.  That’s on this morning’s list before we head up to get the last of my junk from mom’s.  Whenever it quits raining.
  3. As you can see from the badge over to the right, I am on a 3 day G.I.T. streak.  Stuck to my goals.   Still trying to dial back my appetite, and I have had to alter some of my exercise stuff to accommodate my hand, but I’ve been working at it.  I would like to get back to yoga this week, so I am thinking I will give the lower body program another go as I know it won’t use my wrists for anything weight bearing.
  4. Today I am on the SPP (Second Plot Point from Story Engineering), which will lead me into the final climactic sequence.  Would be awesome if I knew how that went down (the SPP I mean).  I have 3 chapters + 1 scene to go in Red.  I am so, so ready to finish this book.  I’m ready to be a grown up again for a while.  My reward for finishing the book is going to be Holly Lisle’s How To Write A Series Course, which I’d like to go through while I’m finishing Riven and before I write Revelation since I’ll be laying the groundwork for so many things in the Mirus series with that book.
  5. So the writing has been…going.  I can’t say it’s been going well, as I know that there are at least a couple of scenes from the last three weeks that just blow chunks and need to be revised.  But the goal here is to finish the first draft and get it off to CPs.  Wednesday I had 441, Thursday 1419, half of which got cut on Friday when I decided to totally axe what I’d written of a scene and start over.  Friday 817 and Saturday 735.  I’m averaging around 850 words a day(not taking into account whether said words are getting kept).
  6. I’ve got more work travel this week.  Down to the Mississippi coast for a work conference at the end of the week and over the weekend.  I’m not sure how much writing I’ll get done while I am down there, but I’ll certainly make an effort.

  1. Excellent job on the G.I.T streak and keeping the writing together through a carpal tunnel event. Things seem to be moving along on the house nicely, not as fast as anyone would want, but progress is progress right? Stick with the positives 🙂

  2. Oh man, I can so sympathize about the carpal tunnel syndrome. I’ve got it in both my hands. Congrats on getting the writing done through that pain and discomfort!

I’m also trying to use the stuff from Story Engineering, but it’s been an interesting go as I’m trying to apply it something I’m over halfway through.

  3. It looks like you’re getting into some streaks with G.I. T. and the writing, congratulations! It is hard to plug away through carpal tunnel, I would imagine. As for writing going well, hey, words on page are what count; even if they get cut, there’s often a benefit in having thought it through and written it down.

Try to enjoy the work conference–at least the evenings, eh?

  4. my wrists give up quite often – not from carpal tunnel – and it’s the same- save what can be used for something creative – best of luck with house selling, grim time I found – so stressful

all the best for this week

  5. I can sympathize with the carpal tunnel as just got over bad bout of tennis elbow. Keeping fingers crossed you’ll get an amazing offer on the house and relieve some of your stress. Kudos for still finding time to write. I’m going to join in on the Goddess in Training. Need incentive and accountability. Have a great week.

  6. Carpal tunnel is a rough. And good luck on getting an offer soon. Showing is no fun. Now what is the Goddess in Training? I’ve been out of town the past few days and must have missed something.

  7. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be afflicted in this way. I have more than enough trouble with hands that are a bit too big and clumbsy. I seem to spend more time making corrections than anything else so I can sympathize.

Kudos to you, Kait, for bearing up and working through this one. I hope the condition gets better soon.
