Mid-Week Check-In

Well I’m officially home after a lovely visit with one of my college BFFs.  Back in the land of grown ups.  I adore my unofficial niece and nephew but a little kid proofed house is totally dangerous to the short and klutzy.  Baby gates…kiddie stools in the bathroom…toys in the floor.  All bad things for people who don’t watch their feet when they walk…  I’m still trying to remember where I got this massive bruise on the back of my calf.

I slept in this morning instead of working out.  I totally should have done yoga because I’m stiff as a freaking board and my quads feel like dry rotted rubber bands.  See, I went jogging at the gym while I was in Kansas.  For the first time in…well I only ever run on treadmills due to an old knee injury and last time I had access to one was grad school.  So…yeah, long damn time.  Good news: I did it without keeling over in a gasping, wheezing puddle.  Bad news: Muscles are SOOOOOOORE.  Twelve hours in a car did not help with that.  Which is almost enough of an insult to make me get back into running.  But no.  I can’t tolerate running on pavement with my knee (treadmills are squishy), and even if I could, it’s only cool enough to run here comfortably 3-4 months out of the year.  Maybe in the next house we’ll have room for a treadmill there. On the upside, I had 2 12 hour car rides inside a week and MY BACK DIDN’T HURT!   I was stiff but not in pain.  I am a serious believer in chiropractic now.

I’m hoping to get back to writing today.  I have planned out the next scenes for each of the two WIPS, so that’s sorted at least.  But of course it’s going to be a big catch up day at work, then at home as I reclaim my kitchen and sort out grocery needs and what not.  So…that might not happen until tomorrow.  But either way it’s good.  I feel mentally rested and pretty clear after my trip.  I’ve got a batch of spicy tomato soup started in my crock pot and I’m looking forward to getting back on the band wagon with the healthy food.  I don’t think I’ve got any interruptions to routine for a bit over a month, so should be ample time to really get back into the groove and drop the holiday weight.  Plus my new adjustable weights came in, so I’ll pull those out later and get them put together.  It’s definitely time to amp up my weights.  The batwings beware!  I’m on a warpath!

  1. Visiting is nice…but coming back home is even better! 🙂

I feel guilty not using my treadmill more often. Especially in light of the fact that you don’t have one and I should be grateful that I do. LOL

Good luck with getting back on track with writing, exercising, and eating healthy!

  2. I’d rather use the treadmill too, though I’m not up to jogging yet (old back injury). I just walk really fast, LOL. Heated seats really help with being in a car for long periods of time!

  3. I love to run – sadly my body refuses to allow me to give in to that love. Glad you had a nice time! Too bad the house can’t look after itself 😉 Hope your week is productive and creative!

  4. Exercise… *sigh* I have so little time after the near-12 hour day job. All I want to do is blog, do promotion, and, of course, write; however, all of this sitting at the laptop has given me this pudgy middle. Now I’ve gone back to doing 40 minutes of floor work. At least I can do that and listen to the iPod. When it gets warmer I’ll have to get back to running. I was doing 3-5 miles there for a while.
I hates it, but what can you do, right? 😉
    Good luck to you.

  5. Ah, this reminds me of the days the kiddies were little. The house was a minefield and you learned that silence usually lead to discovering something impossible to clean up, or broken. Or both!

Glad you had a nice visit 🙂

  6. Wow! You amazing woman, you! I envy your drive. I’m still super lazy on the activity front. Give me a word count and I seem to forge on like the world will end if I don’t hit the mark, but hand me a pair of dumbbells and I’ll probably use them as bookends.

  7. Since you mentioned the treadmill, I’ll entertain you with a quick story. At my local 24hr Fitness, I was on the treadmill early one morning and noticed several men playing basketball in the adjacent gym. They were around my age, fit, and engaged in manly activity. So I found myself glancing over there now and then. I glanced one time too many and stumbled off the treadmill. That’s what I get for not keeping my eyes where they should be! LOL.

How great to get some work done on the WIPs. Best wishes getting caught up at home and with the writing. Have a fabulous writing week, Kait!

  8. lol, ohh gosh I remember baby-proofed houses! I too would be covered in unexplained bruises – thankfully I don’t know many people with/having babies now (been there done that, phew!).

Glad to hear the chiropractic work is helping with the back, mine was good too – had a lot less pain since!

Good luck reclaiming your kitchen and time! 😀
