Sunday Summary and #ROW80 Update

  1. Allergy season has kicked back in full force. We’ve had a lot of rain lately, and it’s got stuff blooming again.  Consequently, I’ve got a river o’ sludge running down the back of my throat and no voice.  It doesn’t actually hurt today, but I don’t think I’ll be doing a lot of talking.  Lots of tea drinking.
  2. Hubs has to work today, so between writing, I’m going to be doing a lot of watching of stuff for inspiration.  Some episodes of Roar and The Two Towers, which I’ve had an urge to watch for at least a couple of weeks.
  3. The writing has gone well this week.  385, 601, 1183, 1003, 507.  I didn’t write Friday because I didn’t feel well.  Didn’t write yesterday because I was hanging with hubby and working on food bloggy stuff.  I hope to make up for that today.
  4. I’ve been mulling over a post apocalyptic plot bunny the last few days.  It’s not a super rabid one that I can’t ignore, but I’ve been scribbling down ideas.  More about the world after certain events transpire, what it’s like immediately after and a couple centuries down the line.  It’s a fascinating thing to contemplate.  How our world might change.  Thankfully, there are no characters attached to this yet or it might be more difficult to put aside.
  5. We had a double feature yesterday afternoon, watching City of Ember and The Hunger Games.  I haven’t read either of these books yet, so had no preconceived notions of what they should be.  Neither was the best movie evar, but I enjoyed them.  The Hunger Games piqued my interest enough that I might actually go read the books.  I have them, I just haven’t been able to get past them being in present tense because that annoys me so much.  But I’m curious enough to want to know what happens next and not patient enough to wait for them to make the other two movies.  I definitely enjoyed Katniss more as a character than a certain other female lead in a certain other ludicrously popular series.  At least she had a spine and put others before herself.  And she never whined.  And she was capable of doing something for herself, not expecting some man to do it for her.  Ahem.  It made me want to get my bow fixed and take up archery again.
  6. It’s a domestic day, time for laundry, finishing my  menu  planning for the week, and doing some pre-prep for meals, like roasting the 2 pints of grape tomatoes I got a marvelous deal on yesterday.  I also got a killer deal on some red bell pepper and some Asian pears, so gotta decide what I want to do with them, as well.  This is the part of food blogging I really enjoy.  Coming up with something new to do with ingredients.  On the menu tonight is a new attempt at gluten free chicken rotel, trying out the recipe for gluten free cream of mushroom soup in You Won’t Believe It’s Gluten Free.  My prior attempt with another GF cream of mushroom soup substitute was bland as all get out.  I’m hoping this will be better.
  7. And the high point of my week, my being fully back on the band wagon, truly watching my calorie budget and exercise has me down two pounds.  I have no expectation that it will continue at that rate per week, but it was a really nice confidence booster/reward.  5 pounds to go to get rid of what I put on since Daisy’s stroke.  It would be awesome if the trend would continue to get me back to my low, but we’ll see.

  1. Congratulations–so much accomplished and during high allergy season, too! Menu planning–things go so much better, and I feel so much better when I do it, but I don’t manage to make it happen as often as I’d like. I may have to take a cue from you and add that into my goals. And thanks for the GF cookbook link. Off to have a look now. Have a great week!

    1. I find it incredibly jarring. It’s not how we naturally tell stories, and up to this point, I’ve only read one book (out of many) where the author did it so well it didn’t pull me out of the narrative.
