The Next Big Thing: Daughter Of The Hunt

So there’s a writer’s meme flying around called The Next Big Thing wherein you answer 10 questions about your current work in progress.  I thought it sounded like fun, so I totally nabbed this from pal Jessica Corra.

  1. What is the title of your book? Daughter of the Hunt
  2. Where did the idea come from for the book?  It was a flash of a scene, really.  Of a wild, unbroken stallion mysteriously kneeling so that this little three year old girl could mount him, and then carrying her around like a pony in a petting zoo (to the awe of a crowd of onlookers).  I wanted to know who this kid was, why she could do this.  And that’s where my heroine came from.
  3. What genre does your book fall under? YA paranormal
  4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? I’m gonna cheat on this because I don’t actually know many teen actors.  I actually nabbed inspiration images from Dreamstime.
    Jake
    Lachlan
    Bree
  5. What is a one-sentence synopsis of the book? When her mother is kidnapped by the Wild Hunt, a teenage girl must leave her Montana ranch for another world, where she becomes a pawn in a war of the gods.  I’m not really happy with that summary but it’s the best I’ve got for the moment.
  6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?  This won’t be one of my self-pubbing projects.  My agent, the Magnificent Laurie McLean will be shopping it the traditional way.
  7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript? I started it last December and I’m still going on it.  It’s a long book, and I should be finished by the end of November.
  8. What other books would you compare this story to in your genre?  It’s intended to be a trilogy, a grand adventure, with a love triangle (first one I’ve ever written).  I think it would appeal to fans of Julia Kagawa’s Iron Fey series.
  9. Who or what inspired you to write this book? How is that different from number 2?  I’m writing it because this is who’s talking to me.  Which is, largely, why I write anything, I suppose.
  10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? Cowboys and Celtic gods.  Come on!  What’s not to love?  It’s a coming of age story.  There’s romance (though that’s not the primary focus).  And it deals in a mythology that’s not often touched on (to my knowledge) in fiction.

You’re supposed to tag folks, so here are my bunch: Susan Bischoff, Claire Legrand, Mhairi Simpson, Andrew Mocete, and anybody else who thinks it sounds like fun!
