2013 Goals

I’m sitting here watching the Gator Bowl and wondering if the the Bulldogs are going to pull a miracle out of their butts and thinking it’s time to jot down my goals for the year.  I’ve made goals about all kinds of things in the past.  Goals about time management, healthy living, eating habits, writing.  Oddly, I’m not feeling the urge to lay out a bunch of goals for the year.  I don’t so much do resolutions, per sae, because they tend to be amorphous and hard to measure.  I’m much more into goals.  Specific, measurable, attainable.  Go my goals for 2013 are:

  • I will bring more focus back to self publishing.  I didn’t self publish anything in 2012.  I spent all year working on Daughter of the Hunt and juggling the move and Daisy’s stroke, and I just didn’t get anything else finished to release.  So I plan to have more of a balance this year, focusing on self published titles in the early part of the year while DOTH is being shopped.
  • I intend to finish and release 2-3 self published titles.  I’m aiming to knock out   the Christmas contemporary novella I started this holiday.  Then Riven (at long last getting back to my Mirus series).  And I’m starting a new contemporary romance series (the novella fits in to that) of short novels, the first of which I plan to finish this year.  What I work on after that will depend a great deal on what happens with DOTH.  The next book in that trilogy will be on deck.  And there are some other full length projects that are possible.  So we’ll see.
  • I would like to repeat my WIP500 goal of 183k (okay technically 182.5k, as this isn’t a leap year).  I was ecstatic to have bumped my word count up to this level.  I would eventually like to up it beyond that (because I’m me) but there are some things on the horizon that will interfere with that, so I’ll stick to this level again and see how it goes.  It’s a pretty comfortable and doable pace.

There really nothing else.  I’m healthy.  I’m physically fit.  I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing on that front.  I’d like to get more organized in the new house, really going through and getting rid of some stuff and organizing our new space as efficiently as possible.  And there’ s stuff I NEED to do, like dealing with the flower beds and yard (which I might actually DO if it would friggin stop RAINING), organizing the garage, etc.  But mostly I don’t feel compelled to make formal GOALS about these things.  They’ll get done as they get done.

Meanwhile, I’m going to go have a conciliatory cup of tea because I don’t see the Dogs pulling out of this downward spiral…

  1. I’m not a fan of resolutions either Kait, and your goal based way to thinking similar to my own.I am sure you can get all of the above completed and still have time left over. All the best for 2013

  2. I don’t do resolutions. But goals…yeah, I have some of those. Your goal to publish 2-3 titles is like mine. I want to shoot for three. You know, now that I actually feel like doing things. 🙂

  3. Kait, I do have a Resolution, which is to stick to my Goals (broken down into actionable Plans with obtainable Targets). I discussed all those on my bloggy-blog so I won’t go into them here.

But my family also chooses an annual motto — last year’s was “Everything New!” which was certainly appropriate given all the changes my family endured. This year’s motto is “Stay on Target!” Only a week into 2013 we’ve already put that to the challenge, so I think it’s a good one for us to keep in mind.

Regardless of what we call them or how we pursue them, I think it’s always good to aim for SOME kind of direction. #ROW80 helps keep me moving forward & has become a great way for me to track my progress, so THANKS for that! And good luck with all your stuffs! 🙂
