Sunday Summary and a #ROW80 Update

  1. It’s been a gloriously lazy Sunday.  I slept in until 9:30 and still took a 2 hour nap this afternoon.  Never got out of my jammies and didn’t put in my contacts.  I can’t remember the last time I’ve been such a sloth.
  2. I had grand plans of finishing the writing of my fight scene today.  I even got started this morning.  But then I got sidetracked with another project that you’ll be hearing about on the #ROW80 blog tomorrow.  It’s been a low word count week, but that’s okay.  I’m working through some stuff.
  3. I did some replotting on my plot bunny.  I was taking too long to get into the fantasy world portion of the story, which I definitely wanted to avoid given that was a major problem with DOTH last year.  So I’m revising some plot points and seeing where the story takes me.
  4. The exciting food thing of the weekend is that I successfully converted my mini pizza puffs to gluten free.  Which was simple as could be by just swapping out for an all purpose gluten free flour mix and adding 3/4ths teaspoon xanthan gum.
  5. We had an engagement shoot yesterday afternoon, which was lovely.  Easy to work with couple, who had a lot of fun.  If not for the incessant gnats it would’ve been a totally perfect afternoon.  :itch itch:
  6. Had a lovely long lunch with my local writer pal L. B. Kroger.  Mexican and two hours of shop talk.  Awesome!
  7. I’m still working my way through The Art of War for Writers, which I’m really enjoying.  It’s set up with these very brief two or three page chapters, so it’s nice to sit down when I’ve got a few minutes and get my thoughts provoked.
  8. Most everything else I’ve picked up to read lately has been just kinda…meh.  I’m trying to read The Brides of Rollrock Island, which hasn’t been at all what I was expecting and has a literary style that’s not appealing to me.  I tried Jill Shalvis’ Out of This World, which isn’t charming me as much as her Lucky Harbor or Animal Attraction series.  I’m just about finished listening to Born in Fire in audio (yeah I totally went 2, 3, 1 rereading them this time).  I guess I’m just kind of feeling the need to revisit old favorites.
  9. I’ve had decent luck on incorporating 5 minutes of meditation daily before I sit down to write.  It helps quiet the brain a bit, dump out all the mess from earlier in the day.  So I’ll stick with that and eventually work up to something longer.
  10. Probably there’s more to say, but I’m enjoying my low brain day, and we’re off to go watch some more Veronica Mars.

  1. Oh, I am so going to take your gluten-free modification of this recipe, use a substitution for the egg (so my mother can eat it), and convert the toppings and sauce to suit my gyro pizza recipe!

Which GF all-purpose flour do you use? What’s in it?

And on a non-cooking note, I’m very much looking forward to Riven, whenever that comes out. ^_^

      1. I made them, yay!

Okay, so I slaughtered the recipe—flax egg replacer, with the cheese converted to mozzerella + feta; the seasoning being minced garlic and paprika; the “toppings” being chicken, spinach, and onion; and the “sauce” being tzatziki. Oh, and I used unsalted butter instead of cooking spray.

I, uh, actually ended up with 36 mini muffins out of one batch.

But they’re so yummy…my dad just told me he ate most of them. After I told him they were to be for dinner. >_<

        *off to make another batch*

  2. I must see if I can get my hands on “The Art of War” for writers as well. And I think Stephen Pressfield has “The War of Art” which I’ve heard good things about.
If you’re looking for something to read, I’m reading “The Pledge” by Kimberly Derting and it’s not your run-of-the-mill type of YA story. It’s something along the lines of The Hunger Games – futuristic society, ambience, efforts to overthrow a tyrannical ruler – but has some elements of magical ability in it, too. I’m only about half way through, but it’s a thoroughly good read.
Looking forward to hearing about the new plot bunny!

  3. Kait,

Your reality fascinates me. You have a sparkling way of expressing your ups and downs and diversions. =)

I think what you did instead of adding to your word count will make the world a better place. That’s gotta be worth a few thousand words…..
