$4 Bookcase Makeover

In college I had one of those cheap MDF bookcases with fake wood veneer.  One of those Walmart specials that hardly qualifies as furniture, but holds textbooks just fine.  I think I got it for my first apartment back in…when was that?  1999?  So it’s 14 years old.  It was not then, nor could it be called now, pretty.  It’s been hanging out in the garage since we moved in last year.

I was in the Dollar Tree today picking up stickers (because I’m totally joining the craze Victoria Schwab started on that front) and I found cute contact paper.  A buck a roll.  I figured, what the heck.  It can’t look worse than what I started with.  Since I needed a break from looking at a screen after the fevered craze of finishing revisions and formatting and all the new release stuff, I decided tonight was as good a time as any to play.

It’s not perfect.  There are bubbles a few wrinkles.  Installing this stuff is HARD, even with a squeegee.  But it looks a heck of a lot better than it did!  And hey, $4!  So I stuck it next to my desk and put my various writing supplies and most frequent reference materials there.  Say hi to my minions!
