Coming Clean About The Seekrit Project: Meet Cute Romance

So I’ve been working on a Seekrit Project since I finished Be Careful, It’s My Heart.  I’ve got life stuff going on that precludes me working on longer stuff at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped me from playing with this.

meet-cute is a term sometimes used to describe a situation in film, television, etc. in which a future romantic couple meets for the first time in a way that is considered adorable, entertaining, or amusing.[1] –Wikipedia

I’m sure I heard about this term before I saw The Holiday, but the adorable  Arthur (played by Eli Wallach, who I just want to cuddle and adopt as my grandfather), explains a meet cute with this example:

“It’s how two characters meet in a movie. Say a man and a woman both need something to sleep in, and they both go to the same mens pajama department. And the man says to the salesman: ‘I just need bottoms’. The woman says: ‘I just need a top’. They look at each other, and that’s the meet cute.”

So much of romance these days is about, ahem, closing the deal, as it were.  And I’m as big a fan of that as the next chick.  But I truly love the meet cute.  I love that spark, that moment of promise and possibility.  So I wanted to write a series of romantic shorts that celebrate the meet cute.  And that’s where Meet Cute Romance was born!

These stories will be novelettes, bite-sized contemporary romance that you can sit down and read on your lunch break or after putting the kids to bed.  And the first one is available today!

Isabelle Lawson loves her job.  Driven, dedicated, there’s no room in her high-pressure life to look for love outside the pages of the books she edits.  Can a fun-loving, handsome stranger change her mind?

A novelette of approximately 10k words.  Est. reading time: 45-60 min.

Available at Amazon.  I’m experimenting with the KDP Select program for the first time, so for the next 3 months, it’s only at Amazon.  BUT this book is completely DRM free and can be purchased at Amazon and converted to any other ebook format using Calibre with no fuss or special set up.  I hope you’ll give it a try!

There’s a Facebook Page you can Like and a group you can join (the Meet Cuties) if you wanna hang around and talk about your own favorite meet cutes–from the real life kind to your favorite movie.   And you can add the book on Goodreads.

  1. I had never heard the term “meet cute” until watching The Holiday. And I agree with you completely about Eli Wallach. I LOVE him in this movie. When he went up to the podium, I cried. I love that movie so much.

I just went to Amazon and bought my copy!

  2. May I ask where you got your read time estimate? Last I checked, figures were that most people read at a rate of 250–300 words per minute, which would be a maximum of 40 minutes for the estimated read time.

  3. What a great idea! I love those “meet cute” moments in classic or even older contemporary movies. The setup of When Harry Met Sally is really a montage of these great moments, and totally charming. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. *scampers off to Amazon*
