Sunday Summary and #ROW80 Check-In

  1. Well, we’ve finally done it.  We finally got rid of the sofa.  This may not sound like much of a thing, but you have to understand that our old sofa has been sitting in our garage since LAST APRIL when we got our new sofa.  WHY was it there so long, you might ask.  Well, because we live in the county.  See, back when we lived in town, we’d just have put it at the curb and it would’ve been hauled away (or claimed by some intrepid college students looking to furnish their apartment for free).  But in the county you can’t do that.  There’s nobody to haul it away.  The garbage service will only haul off stuff that’s bagged.  The city and county dumps are only open in the middle of the business day when everyone is working and can’t get free.  And there are no public dumpsters where you can go toss stuff that’s too big for the garbage can.   So getting rid of our old sofa necessitated a covert ninja operation in the middle of the night.  I kid you not.  We were dressed in black and operating on as few lights as possible, while we hauled the sofa to the dumpster of a neighborhood a few miles away that has one and left it.   My dispatcher husband (who’s the one who fields all the calls about suspicious activity) was convinced someone would see and report us.   That seemed excessive to me.  We were dumping a sofa, not a body.  In any event, we didn’t see  a soul and the damn thing is gone now.
  2. It was a new release week for me with the publishing of the latest Meet Cute Romance: Once Upon A New Year’s Eve.   It’s out later than I intended, but it’s out.
  3. I have hit the start of the crazy at the Evil Day Job.  For the next month, things are going to be pretty intense, both in quantity of work and required brain power.  To keep myself from going nuts and stressing over trying to work on longer stuff, I’ve opted to work on a couple of Meet Cutes rather than diving straight in to my planned novel project.  I simply won’t have the mental energy to keep all the nuanced details of a long project in my head until this huge grant is out the door at the end of February.
  4. It was a productive writing week, with several thousand words of plot notes written, and about 2,500 words of prose written on various projects.
  5. I’ve been in a mood to Clean All The Things.  I blame this partly on Pinterest.  They sent me a collection of “Pins You Might Like” related to homemade cleaners and such, which sucked me down a serious Pinterest rabbit hole.  I found this thing about cleaning your washer, which had never occurred to me.  But apparently you can get buildup of minerals and bacteria and other nastiness.  Since our washer was used when we got it, and I’ve certainly never cleaned it, I did it yesterday.  O.O   OMG.  The stuff that showed up in the soaking water was…nasty.  Believe you me, I won’t forget to clean it again.  Anyway, that led to tackling the cooked on grime on my oven door, and then trying to get the burnt on crud off my glass cooktop (HATE THAT THING, and no I haven’t managed it yet)…and…yeah okay clearly I’ve hit my CLEAN OUT THE HOUSE, IT’S A NEW YEAR stage.  Hopefully that won’t wear off before we get around to tackling the garage.

  1. I know what you mean about getting rid of things when you live out in the country. We still have some things next to the woods that have been there forever, like t-posts and other metal.

I’m interested in how to clean the washer….

  2. Congrats on your new release, Kait! 🙂

I know how you feel about the urge to clean. My apartment lease is up this summer and, after living in the same place for seven years, we’re moving on. All I can think about sometimes is going through my stacks of notebooks, papers, and books and scaling back. I’m determined to simplify my life, which is easier said than done.

  3. Congrats on getting your book published — in spite of all else. And on getting rid of that sofa. We just gave our old sofa away to family; they were happy, and our living room is now huge! Just right with two of those sofa-chairs. Pinterest can be a rathole, but at least this week’s sounds useful. I wanted to look up some of those cleaning tools, but didn’t. And I haven’t written much yet. Still fussing with formatting for Smashwords. Maybe PLOT NOTES is the way to go!
