Sunday Summary and #ROW80 Update

  1. Today is day 5 of the whole allergen free thing.  We have officially reached grumpy.  Hubby wants his coffee creamer, and I want my half and half for tea and my eggs back for breakfast.   That being said, it was going okay until I decided to make some gluten free, egg free, dairy free bread yesterday.  The bread itself was fine in terms of taste (though the loaf bread was pretty flat), but something IN it caused me to puff up two pounds within an hour of eating some toast this morning.  So no bread for me.  Le sigh.  Damn it.  Why are ALL normal breakfast foods full of allergens?  I don’t WANT vegetables for breakfast. :grump:  Further research just informed me that xanthan gum is derived from corn.  Awesome.  So yesterday and today I ate one of the allergens we were trying to cut out.  :headdesk:
  2. We got the giant bookcase from Ikea put together yesterday and rearranged furniture so that the library is now my proper office.  I’m quite happy about that and am about to buckle down to do some serious writing before going to see The Lego Movie this afternoon with a pal.   Part of why I’ve been wanting to do this for so long was to really condition my brain to WORK when I come into this space.  We do so much else in the living room that my brain tends to fritter away time because it often takes me too long to get my head in work space after coming home, getting dinner started, feeding the dogs, pottying Daisy, etc.
  3. I’m also about to start employing the Stay Focused app when I write, which more or less does what Freedom does (though Freedom never worked right for me).  This one is browser based, and I think they make it for all major browsers.  Either way, having all my major time sucks blocked during my writing time is a good thing.
  4. Spring has more or less sprung here in Mississippi. My plum trees are starting to flower, the crabapple has leafed out, and the damn mint is coming back.  We REALLY need to get the patch tilled up and I need to get started with the seed trays for my garden this summer.  Not to mention we need to put out a ton of mulch.  All things we MEANT to do while it was cold…  There’s never enough time.  I’ve been hoarding cardboard boxes to dismantle and put down as a weed barrier underneath the mulch (something I read about on Pinterest for cheap gardening).
  5. There’s probably other news, but right this second, I can’t think of any.  Time to 86 the internet and get some work done.

  1. I think it’s very important to have that one place that’s your writing place. I have an office that I share with the cats. Hubby had cleaned out the closet in there and had hangers in a big pile on one of the desks (the one we were going to put in his man cave until we suddenly couldn’t afford to do the man cave), so I got discouraged and then let the cat letter stay all over the floor (my cats are messy). Hubby finally cleaned up his mess, I cleaned up the cat litter, and now I’m ready to write next week!

I think the fact that you have done things recently to fix up your office probably makes it feel more like a real office where real work should be done.

Spring has sprung here, too! I think we’re supposed to have one fairly cold day next week, but aside from that one, the next ten days look good. Of course, here in the Tennessee Valley, anything can happen. VERY unpredictable.

  2. I saw the “craptastic” picture of your office. Very nice!

Weather here in Georgia has been schizophrenic. One day, it’ll be sunny and in the 60s, the next day it’ll be twenty degrees cooler.

  3. Gah, I hate the thought of food allergies. I don’t know of any that the hubby and I have, and I’m hoping it stays that way. I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

I hadn’t heard of those apps. I’m not surprised there’s something out there to block the web, though. Great idea! I hope they help.
