Midweek #ROW80 Check-In

Obviously one of my goals next round of #ROW80 should be to blog more consistently.  But whatever.  I’m kicking ass and taking names on the writing front.  About 9k into this little Christmas novella (yeah, the one that was supposed to be a Meet Cute–that one) and still going strong.  I’ve made some really great plotting strides with book 2 in this Seekrit contemporary trilogy.  Looking forward to more of that once I’m off for the holiday.   And I’ll be diving into revisions on Reed and Cecily’s novella.

On the less interesting regular life front, I’ve turned in my final grades, nearly gotten my class updated for next semester with the absolute MANDATORY stuff, and we’re wrapping things up for the year at the rest of the evil day job.  Office Christmas parties the rest of the week.

Note: Note what our office Christmas parties look like.

I’ve been awful about the gym this month.  Planning to get back to that next week, when I get off for the holidays.  Sleep in and THEN go sweat.

Christmas shopping is DONE.  Now I need to WRAP STUFF.  I find myself reluctant to put any of it under the tree when I do because I don’t know what Huck will do.  We’ve already lost one ornament he thought was a toy.  But in the grand scheme of things, he’s destroyed way less than previous puppies.

I feel like I’ve been going 90 miles an hour all year.  On the one hand, I would like to slow down next year, but at the same time, I’m reluctant to lose the momentum I’ve had going.  I feel like this Round, most specifically through participating in NaNo this year, I actually, FINALLY figured out how to fast draft.  I’ve been trying to figure this out FOR YEARS.  And I want to be able to stick with that because it means getting more work done.  I still have enough stories in my “To Write” file to keep me occupied for twenty years, but this would help a LOT.

Back to the grind…

  1. I told my Accomplice that I have at least enough ideas to last me through three lifetimes of writing….

I love fast drafting. I fell down on it a bit with my 100K fantasy, but, for the first time ever, I completely drafted 3 60K novels for a near-future fantasy series. That’s huge for me! Now, to learn to revise at anything even vapproaching alacrity….

I always think of you as a very prolific writer.

Enjoy the pup and those wacky parties!

  2. You’re doing so much writing lately! Which is good…more of your books for me to read!

I took three classes, two at one conference and one at another, on fast drafting. Although, I think she called it sprinting. They were all the same class, but I enjoyed the exercises, and I really wanted to learn to do it. But I CANNOT turn off my inner editor. I’ve tried and tried.

When we brought Duke in the house, we wondered how he would react to the Christmas tree. He totally ignores it! He walks by like it’s not even there. I couldn’t believe it. Now Huck, being so much younger, will be a different story. Good luck with that! (Put all the important ornaments higher on the tree.)
