Coming Soon: Be Careful, It’s My Heart

I am giddy.  Bounce around, happy happy, joy joy dancing, giddy.

Yesterday I got back critiques from both my crit partners on Be Careful.  And it was all really minor line edits and a few points of clarification.  Which has never happened in the history of EVAR.  I have never gotten a crit back from The Pink Hammer and not felt like I’d been whipped with a cat-o-nine-tails.

There were WHOLE TRACTS WITH NO PINK!!!  I kept checking back to make sure she’d read the whole thing.  I got all of it implemented yesterday and now we are down to the cover, which should be in my hot little hands–metaphorically–any day now.  We even finished the blurb today, which–hey, I should share:

The best things happen while you’re acting…

The historic Madrigal theater, in the heart of downtown Wishful, is about to close its doors forever.  A last ditch fund-raising effort, a production of White Christmas, is probably the only thing that could bring Tyler Edison out of retirement.  She fell in love on that stage, but when Brody Jensen abandoned her, she lost the heart to sing and dance for the crowd.  Maybe it’s time to take that back…

It seems like pure chance when Brody’s job, which has taken him all over the world, brings him back to his little hometown to oversee his boss’s latest secret project.  Brody’s looking for closure, planning to sell the house his parents left him and finally put his past, and his memories of Tyler, behind him.  What better way than to be a part of this last show?  Even though his leading lady is surely long gone…
Put on your dancing shoes, auditions start at six o’clock.

I’m actually going to pull off a Thanksgiving release.

Considering that’s exactly what I wanted to do when I started back on this thing in August, I am very, very pleased.

Y’all, I can’t tell you how much I love this book.  And I so much hope that readers get as much fun out of it as I did.

Next week starts my Unproductive Time.  Well, not technically.  It’s Thanksgiving…but there’s only a couple of days of break between that and the start of UT, so it hardly seems worth counting those few days before Turkey Day.  I’ll still be working on stuff daily because that’s who I am, what I do, but I’m definitely making no promises or setting expectations about what I’ll manage to get done in that time.  I’d like to write my ebook formatting class, do some plotting, and experiment with a few things.

Experimentation is one of the greatest joys of self publishing.  Your career doesn’t trap you into a genre or series or whatever.  Anything you want to try, you can.   With or without coming up with a zillion different pen names.  You can stick your fingers in a lot of pies and see which flavors readers like best.  This novella is the first serious deviation from the fanbase I’ve built myself, so we’ll see how it’s received.  Well, I hope, because I’ve got a lot more stories where this one came from.

  1. Okay, I have to say it, because it’s niggling at me: Is your story title supposed to be a run-on sentence? Because it is. It’s specifically a comma splice.

Sorry to nitpick, but it’s making me cringe whenever I see it.

But the story sounds interesting, and congrats on getting it together! It’s such a great feeling. 🙂
