It’s SNOWING! Earlier it was big fluffy flakes. Now it’s slowed to the barest of flurries. But so long as I can see SOMETHING coming down, it counts! :does happy dance: It’s rare we get snow at all, particularly before January or February. Last year we actually had a white Christmas–first one since 1913 I think.
I’m in clean out mode. I know most people do this in the spring, but here at the university, things are slowing down at the end of the semester and it’s time to sort out what we actually need and use and the stuff we’ll never ever use again. I’m delighted to have just found a school who will take the donation of the health textbooks that have been taking up all of one of my hutches. And I threw away a metric crapton of revision drafts for the manual associated with a project I inherited when I started here 5 years ago. The draft was finalized years ago. There’s more to come. I haven’t yet tackled the R.S. Drawer (Random Shit–I’m so professional in my naming). It’s totally liberating getting rid of crap.
My hoards of boxes are disappearing as they’re going to be painting and recarpeting our offices over the holiday break, so everybody is boxing up the important stuff in their offices. I’m about to inherit (I hope) a nicer desk from my boss’s old office furniture, and in general am working on getting my office to look nicer than it has in…about a year. It’s a nice, low-key way to spend my day following the holiday brunch that’s left me full and sleepy.
In the background I have a conglomeration of scores from The Horse Whisperer, The Black Stallion, and The Black Stallion Returns playing to inspire me as I set out on the opening scene of DOTH. Oh you were wondering when I was going to get to that? TECHNICALLY I officially started last night, but I changed my mind this morning on how I want to open this scene, so I’m axing everything I wrote last night. I’ve got the scene sketched out and will dive in over lunch. I am loading up my playlists with scores of horse movies and westerns (and yeah, that totally includes Cowboys and Aliens and Firefly) because this trilogy is set (or at least starts) on a ranch in Montana. But it also has…otherworldly elements. 😀 SO EXCITED.

I love horse movies and books. I’ve read a few but mostly are contemporary stuff, without any otherworldly elements lol
So nice you’re excited! Plunge at it 😉
Hmm.. Would you recommend the soundtrack to Cowboys and Aliens? Dang! I didn’t even think about the Firefly soundtracks.
I love it. But then Harry Gregson-Williams is one of my all-time favorite composers.
I love it that you’re including Firefly and Cowboys and Aliens in your mix! Excellent choices.
It’s funny, I start getting the desire to clean and sort and organize right about this time of year, too. I never thought that it might be because I used to be a teacher, plus my years away at college. This was the time of year to get everything cleared up and organized and ready for the next school term. That makes so much sense to me now!
Ooh…snow. My kiddos would be beside themselves with joy. 😀 I need to get into some winter cleaning too. Maybe tomorrow. LOL
