- Perhaps the biggest, most exciting news of the week is that, while it was listed at free through KDP Select, Once Upon A Snow Day hit number 63 in the OVERALL Free Kindle Store. I stayed at number 1 in two short story categories for about two and a half days. So that was pretty heady and exciting. It’s back to paid today and evidently Amazon just dumps you wherever you were before you went free (pity–the boost from having been free used to be pretty awesome). But I’d suspected as much. The point of this promotion was to drive people on to the rest of the series. I’ll write a more detailed report of my experiences later on, when I’ve got a bit more data gathered up.
- Yesterday, I wrote over 3k words and finished the third Meet Cute Romance, Once Upon An Heirloom. It’s gone to the Hammer. Hopefully edits won’t be too bad, and I can get that out the door this week.
- It’s total Hell Week at the evil day job this week, so otherwise, I do not expect to be writing anything. And, in reality, I’ll probably be working late every day. Today is all about doing as much dinner prep for the week as possible, so that I don’t have to think about it when I get home.
- I finished reading Kristan Higgins’ Somebody To Love on Friday. It took me a while, both because I haven’t had a lot of time to read and because it was a slow starter. I’m really glad I stuck with it because it ended up being really cute and funny. I also finished re-listening to the entire In The Garden trilogy by La Nora. Black Rose is my favorite. I want to be Roz when I grow up.
- I started Lauren Dane’s Cake yesterday, and I think I’ll start Victoria Schwab’s The Archived, which at the time of my writing, is still 99 cents in honor of the release of the sequel. Not sure what I’m going to listen to next in audio. Maybe Austenland. I nabbed it from the library yesterday.
- As I finally have all the various and sundry paperwork to do it, I’m going to knock out our taxes today. Joy. I know you can hear my excitement. But better to get it over with.

That’s amazing about Amazon!
Yeah, with the new paradigms, when you go free you actually move down in the ‘paid’ lists, because no one is paying for your book, so when it ends you are further down than when you began. However, hopefully more people will then discover your books and boost it up again.
That’s why Kindle has introduced the Countdown, where it stays on the paid lists, but you can drop the price to just 99c and make it clear that it’s a promotion for a limited time onwards. Haven’t tried it myself yet.
Would be interested in anything you did to push the free promotion.
Since the Meet Cutes are so short, I’m not comfortable charging more than 99 cents for them to start with, so the free days were my only option with them. The count down deals require your normal list price to be $2.99 or higher, so it will be a while before I have something to try there.
