Midweek #ROW80 Check-In

I’m sitting here with achy muscles and jelly legs–the good kind that says I really USED my body in my taekwondo class last night.  Not as sore as I expected, and last night was more comfortable than the first class last week.  My muscle memory is under there somewhere.  I also learned that on a night I have taekwondo, I sleep like the dead.  I woke up once to pee, once to move once hubs started snoring (allergies are kicking both our asses this summer), and otherwise didn’t move.  It was dark and rainy this morning, and I totally didn’t want to get up.  I was sleeping SO GOOD.

I’ve had a pretty decent start to my Round 3 goals.  I’ve gotten about 2100 words written since Monday, about twice that added (as I’m still pulling in bits and pieces from the 51k I’ve dumped into my scratchpad over the last couple of months).  Monday I read through the entire draft of TGMTY, fleshing things out, correcting typos, and adding in the scene I was missing for pacing in Act 1, and generally smoothing out the inevitable bumps from having made so many changes.  I think this outline FINALLY nailed it, and I have high hopes that taking the time out to make all these changes now is going to save me a lot of time in revisions on the back end.

I’ve been fiddling with Meet Cute covers–something that’s mostly a brainless activity I can do while we watch TV in the evenings–hoping that one of these couples will pop and talk to me.  So far, nada.  Cam and Norah, my hero and shero in TGMTY are really loud and I don’t think anybody can really be heard above them.  Which I’m not complaining about.  Nobody’s been truly LOUD since Elodie.  Lots of Wishful’s residents are loud, actually.  And I’m completely okay with that.  They’re a fun bunch.

  1. Ah, loud characters. Stomping around the house during the dog days of summer, leaving sandy footprints and bouncing on the furniture. (Gotta be glad they don’t go back to school in the fall….)

  2. Having characters that won’t stop talking in your mind’s ear can be a good thing. It helps the words flow, but it can also be distracting if you’re trying to transition to another project.

    Taekwondo sounds awesome! And there’s something satisfying about having sore muscles the day after an intense workout. 🙂

  3. I hope you’re right about the revisions you’re making to your outline and that it does save you time in the long run. And hearing you talk about how well you’re sleeping after taekwondo makes me sorry I never took it up. Hope things continue to go well.
