- I can taste the autumn. After a proper deluge Friday night, a cold front came through, giving actual cool temps the last couple of mornings. It’s GLORIOUS, and it’s making me crave things like chili and beef bourginon and coq au vin and other rich, layered-flavor foods that celebrate the low and slow. We aren’t quite there yet, as daytime temps will still be in the upper 70s and mid 80s, but after a brutal summer with some record breaking number of days over 95 degrees, it’s making this autumn-loving girl very very happy. My Le Creuset Dutch oven is going to be coming into play soon. SOON, MY PRECIOUS.
- It seems that the fluid in my inner ear that’s been plaguing me for three weeks has FINALLY drained out properly. I woke up this morning and I can hear. Everything seems very very loud. But it’s a big yay. I was starting to think I was going to have to go back to the doctor for another round of…IDK, something. I’ve already had antibiotics, a steroid shot, and a metric ton of Sudafed.
- I am nearly through with Wish I Might. Three scenes to go. I had hopes of knocking out two yesterday, but I just couldn’t keep my eyes open past 10:30 (only a little less than 7 hours of sleep the night before). But the next scene is planned out to knock out tonight after hubs leaves for work. Then it’s just two to go. I ought to have this first draft finished by Wednesday. That puts me right at six weeks’ drafting time on this one, which isn’t bad for a 30k novella (which comes out to something like 38-39k total written…which is slightly less than my usual ratio of “waste” in a draft). Then it’s off to The Pink Hammer, and I FINALLY get to dive into Something’s Gotta Give. So excited.
- One thing that’s been interesting while writing this novella is that, for the most part, I’ve had no trouble stepping back into the story world, regardless of what else has been going on. And there’s definitely been a lot going on. In the past I would’ve said this was because I was in that headspace of desperate to write the story, but that wasn’t it at all (that honor belongs to Autumn and Judd). So I’m not sure if I’m finally reaching that point where walking into Wishful is like walking through my front door or what. If it is, that should make writing the next book go much quicker, as well as making my attempt to work on multiple books at once a legitimate possibility. We shall see.
- We finally sold the love seat from hubby’s man cave yesterday. This means that there’s now room for a desk in there. HOORAY. We’re building one for him out of iron pipe and wood, so that’s a project for next weekend, which is his next one off. All the new guitar hangers came in, so we’ll be hanging those then, as well. The reclamation of my office is proceeding apace! I need to pick up some new paint for my own desk, as all of hubby’s cables, guitars, and whatever the hell has scratched the crap out of it. It’s currently black. I’m thinking I might paint it a nice red this go round.
- I finally found knee boots that fit me. This has been a six or seven year search because it’s just hard to find extra-wide calf, extra wide footbed boots at a price I’m willing to pay. But I had a coupon code for 6pm.com and these felt lovely and steampunky to me. So now I’m going to be on the hunt for some skinny jeans (God help me) that will actually fit inside them.
- On an Operation G.I.T. front, I’ve been back at the gym (mostly) for about 6 weeks now. Despite a few hiccups (I missed most of one week due to injury and most of another due to ear issues), I’m down five pounds. So that’s pretty awesome. I don’t anticipate that much of a loss at that rate as I keep going, but it’s really nice to see progress. We’ve got a new instructor at my taekwondo school. He’s ex-military and runs a SERIOUSLY intense class (this is the kind of physicality I remember from TKD back in college–my butt is going to look amazing by Christmas). He’s also going to be running some open mat practices on Saturdays. So I’m very seriously considering just ditching C25K and sticking to 3 days of weight lifting, daily walking the dogs, my 2 regular days of TKD, adding in Saturday practice, and on the 2 days I’m not lifting during the week, adding in some yoga (which I’ve really been wanting to fit back in). We’ll see how it all unfolds. I’ve got 2 weeks left on the lifting routine I’m working my way through, and then I’ll look at making a change.
- It’s another big freezer cooking weekend, so I’m diving in. See y’all on the flip side.
