Midweek Check-In

So…apparently I was supposed to go back to work yesterday.  I had it in my head that it was Thursday.  Then I get a text from my boss around 3 yesterday: Are you sick?  Um no, I thought we went back Thursday.  No, everybody came back today.  Oops.  Ah well, it was a day starting with “T”.    I’ll be in in five.  But of course before Christmas was all the painting of the office and then we had to pack EVERYTHING so that furniture could be moved for the new carpet over the holidays.  So most of yesterday was complete and utter chaos at the office and nobody got anything done but putting their offices back together.  Which I did in the 2 hours I was there.   So no harm, no foul and my boss thought my memory lapse was funny instead of annoying.  It’s back to Real Work today.

I got up like a good girl (despite staying up late to finish watching Return of the King on Bluray–so many going to battle speeches to make me teary) and got in my full workout.  Yay me.  The water weight has slid off, leaving my total holiday gain at 4.5 pounds.  It’s been worse and I’m firmly back on the bandwagon, so I can live with that.  I ordered a set of Bowflex Selectech Weights that can be adjusted from 10-90 lbs in 5 lb increments (found a STELLAR deal on Ebay for 99 bucks free shipping instead of the regular like $300), so I’m definitely focused on getting STRONG AGAIN and ripped.  I’m going to GET RID OF THE BATWINGS.

On the writing front, the writing has been going well.  My daily word count goal this round is 600 words.  On Monday I only had 35 minutes to write, and I got just over 600.  Last night I had an hour, and I got just over 700.  Today I intend to implement the scene sketch planning advocated by Rachel Aaron (of the 10,000 word days) to see if I can’t maybe push that up to a whopping 1k, or at least finish the current scene.

  1. Okay, I honestly laughed out loud when I saw that about getting mixed up on your days. I did think it was odd that your boss waited until 3:00 to call you. The guys here in my office would be frantically calling me after about 30 minutes, scared to death something had happened to me.

Great job on the word count.

And that’s an awesome price on the Bowflex weights! I have one of the old Bowflex machines. Maybe I should use it….

    1. Well there are about seventy five people who work up here and it was mass chaos with everybody trying to put their offices back together. It wasn’t until 3 that she realized she hadn’t seen me and I wasn’t at lunch.

  2. LOL!! ‘Are you sick? Um no’ God, today was my first day back and I totally forgot my password to my office computer and my phone extension… so yeah I can identify with that feeling.
I was so watching LORD OF THE RINGS this week too! I had it in the background as I was writing. Nice to find a fellow writer going through it. 🙂

  3. Great midweek check-in, despite your mix-up! I’d love to have a bowflex! One day, maybe. For now I use the weights at the YMCA. It works. Keep up the momentum, Kait!

  4. Loved the “batwings” reference. I recently looked in the mirror and thought, “Wow, my tummy protrudes about the same amount as my butt” so I knew I was long past needing to exercise! LOL. It’s on my ROW80 goals. Great job with the writing! 600 sounds like a good amount – manageable but enough to see real progress. Best wishes for a great round, Kait!

  5. I figured I’d stop in and see how the founder of our challenge did for her first check-in….Wow! I’m with Lauralynn. Back when I was working at an office, they’d have been close to pounding down the door if I wasn’t in the break room getting my tea ready five minutes before on-the-clock time.

I don’t know if you’ve ever used a similar style of weight, but we have the smaller version of those Bowflex Selectechs that can be adjusted by 2.5lb increments up to 25lbs a piece. We LOVE them and are looking at getting the next bigger set. I think you’ll be really glad for your purchase.

Have a great day at work tomorrow. At least you have gotten some of the craziness out of the way now. 🙂

  6. I’ve been on vacation myself – two weeks – but, thankfully, I don’t have to be back until next Monday. I don’t know how much weight I gained. I’m afraid to look! Bat wings? OMG! I’ll have to mention that one to my wife…tactfully, of course.
I haven’t been by too often. I’m hoping to get better with that in 2012. We’ll see how it goes.
