So National Novel Writing Month starts TODAY. Hundreds of thousands of aspirants are setting out to join the frenzy and write 50,000 words in a month. Or some other goal because there are an increasing number of NaNo Rebels who are using it as National Novel Finishing Month or something else (one year, I wrote a class during NaNo). We all know I am not a fan of one size fits all goals. It’s why I started A Round of Words in 80 Days 2 years ago.
I had hoped to be TOTALLY done with Act 3 by the time today rolled around. I didn’t make it. I have one scene to go (even after clocking over 2k yesterday). I did finish October having broken my highest word count in a month to date again (23,866 words, up from 22063 in September). I need just over 20k for the next two months to catch up on my WIP500 goal. And when I woke up this morning I realized it was a good thing that I didn’t write that scene yesterday because what I thought was going to happen is NOT in fact what’s going to happen, and I would’ve had to chuck it. But either way, I’m aiming to finish DOTH this month, which means I’m looking to log somewhere between 25-30k. So I’m having a NaNoWeeMo, as Susan called it last night. I thought the term was adorable.
Saturday I’m hitting the local coffee shop to meet the local writer’s group and participate in a write in. I’ll be curious to see what the group is like and if there’s actually ANYONE there who writes what I write, has anything published, or if it’s just another one of those groups where they critique pages each meeting and don’t actually manage to get anything accomplished (clearly I have been burned in the past). It would be nice to find someone else locally for shop talk. But for all that romance is the biggest genre and that I know scads of others online who write it, I haven’t met anyone outside the state level RWA group in Jackson who writes it, so I am skeptical. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Let the frenzy begin!
