Operation GIT Report: 2 days on calorie budget, and I added back my weight lifting and tabata training this morning, even though all I wanted to do was sleep. Go me. Me: 1, Morning: 0. TAKE THAT.
On the writing front, the big excitement for me this week is that I figured out how to salvage one of my little darling plot threads in a way that makes it far more relevant to the plot (which was the problem) and fixes some of the weak spots I was having as a result of having taken it out in the first place. I was so exited I did the Carlton Dance. Go ahead. Watch it. It’ll make you grin, I promise.
So I’ve been making scads of notes about the adjustments that need to be made. Several are minor and already added. There is one scene (that I didn’t like anyway), that will be completely rewritten, and actually probably stretched over 2 scenes to replace another partial scene that wasn’t gelling for me that’s no longer necessary. I don’t even know where I am on word count, just that things are clicking into place that weren’t working before.
I find myself in a place just now where I’m less obsessed with productivity. I’m doing stuff every day, but there’s stuff that can’t be measured in words and it’s definitely important in the Getting It Right arena. So I guess I’ve been a lot in my head. I have a timeline in my mind that I’d really LIKE to adhere to, but, honestly, I’m trying not to think too much about it. I’ve spent too much time focused on schedules and production and we see where that’s gotten me–without something of release quality in a year and a half. It’ll be done when it’s done. Hopefully revised and ready to go by early June. After which it’s on to intensive outlining of the next project and a short story or three through the end of July while work is INSANE. Not even going to TRY writing a novel’s worth of prose until that’s done.
Claire has given me another short story plot bunny. Well, it was one I thought about a while ago, but didn’t want to do at the time, and now it’s niggling me again. She says it would be a good growing/stretching exercise. And damn it, I like a challenge. So I plotted it out. Eight scenes. Tight and to the point. Very doable. And I’ll give you the hint that it’s connected to one of my already published books. Stew on that. 😀

8 scenes. Right. I totally believe you. 😛
I’m not a pantser, remember? 🙂
Progress is progress, and you’re right, it can’t all be measured in words. Gotta love that feeling when it starts coming together. Best of luck with the coming week, Kait! 🙂
Anything that makes you feel as good as Carlton when he does the dance is fine by me. Carlton is one of the funniest characters in sitcoms.
I think the way you are relaxing just a bit is going to be helpful. I know you’re still a “get it done” kind of person, but maybe you’ve stopped driving yourself crazy over it. I think things will start being easier, even if it seems it’s against your nature not to go at full tilt all the time. You can burn yourself out if you’re not careful.
:looks at this Relaxing Thing and pokes at it like alien ardvark: Interesting…
Kait,
When I read Carlton Dance, I was hoping…..and you made me grin! =)
This post feels like a breath of fresh air….it seems to have stirred things up nicely for you.
I love when those tangly plots start to smooth out, and the magic happens!
Enjoy!
Such a pity I’m at work, because I totally want get up and dance along now!
Also, Tabata training: that’s pretty hard core! I did a review of it for my fitness blog, and had to do some in Crossfit. Kudos girl!
