I also figured out what Stella’s secret is–the thing that she’s hiding that leads to the Black Moment with Holt. So that was something big. My opening scene is a fire, and I need to do some more research to write it properly. My only experiences with fire have been in fireplaces, campgrounds, and one really nasty flare up on our grill that required the administration of a garden hose. I’m already feeling a little bit rusty having been off for not quite two weeks, but I think that’s because I’m tackling a topic I really don’t know that much about. I’ve joined a firefighters’ forum to get to know some folks and pick a few brains, and I’m about to reread Blue Smoke to get my brain wrapped around it in a non-technical sense.
