The second Round of Words in 80 Days officially begins today!
What with all the insanity going on about the house, I haven’t given a great deal of thought to my goals. I know. Terrible example from your illustrious leader. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have goals! I have a big one!
I declare that I shall finish Red.
I’d expected to be mostly done at the end of Round 1, but Life Happened and…I didn’t. But as I say in my inspiration post today ,that doesn’t matter. It’s in the past. Nothing I can do to change it. I just have to move forward and make good choices today.
So okay “finish Red” is not a good measurable goal. That’s the endgame.
The goal for me is always getting into a daily writing habit. Slow and steady wins my race. I am a quarter into Red. I’ve got approximately 55,000 words to go. So I’m shooting for 750 words a day. That should put me done with a couple of weeks for revisions by the end.
There’s a strong possibility I’ll be moving during this Round, so I’m sure goals will be adjusted when we get to that point. But for now, I think I can work with this.

I always admire those lucky folks who can make and stick to a word count goal. I always end up staring at the word count on Word like a little kid on a road trip. “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” to which the answer is “Settle down and write or we’ll turn this manuscript right back around, missy!”
That’s a reasonable goal. But if life gets in the way, like you told me, you just revise until the goal is reasonable once again. I believe you will finish Red this round, but it won’t be the end of the world if you don’t. Stuff happens sometimes. We do what we can.
Good luck! I have a similar goal – to write about 675 words per day so I can finish my draft by the end of this round.
This is my first time doing ROW80 and I’m excited about it. Thanks for creating such an awesome (and manageable!) challenge. 🙂
Thanks for continuing to host this challenge. I didn’t quite make my goal first round which was finish the first draft. Not sweating it and forging ahead until I do. Life does have a way of getting in the way, but writing has to fit into our lives, not be our total lives. The benefit of row80 is that it got me into the habit of writing daily. I think one of my goals this time is to try to find some time to get round to more participants to see how they are doing. The support is wonderful. Always helps to have cheerleaders. Lots of folks signed up for the 2nd round!
Hi Kait! Thank you for hosting this challenge; I found out about Round 2 just in time, and am so pleased to “meet” you and to participate! I couldn’t help but laugh when you said you were a “freakishly organized” person that the powers-that-be like to challenge with crazy; I can definitely relate to that! It is spring break in my corner of the world, I am trying to paint two rooms and my house is completely torn apart, and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to get the writing done. But it’s a sure thing that I will accomplish more now that I have actually SET a goal than I would have otherwise. If you have a minute (yeah, right – I hear you!) stop by my blog and take a peek at my chaos. Hang in there – it sounds like in the end you are going to have a dream come true!
