Well, today starts a brand new Round of Words in 80 Days. That means GOALS.
1) Write 20 days out of every 30. This is an oldie but goodie and one I generally exceed, but it’s a solid productivity goal for me.
2) Finish the first draft of To Get Me To You. I had expected to do this last round, but I wound up doing two significant outline revisions that meant significant drains on my time and also rewriting a fair chunk of material. I had hoped to be up to PP1 by today in the current draft, but I’m a few scenes behind that. Eh, whatever. I am where I am, and I have a much better understanding of both my hero and shero and what I need to be doing with this book.
3) Outline Uncharted. This is my next planned Mirus novel, the thing I plan (at the moment) to be working on once I get TGMTY out the door. I’ve already done a fair bit of plotting on this project, so I’d like to formalize it into an outline this round.
4) Employ tools to limit my distraction and up my actual productive time. I’ve reinstalled Stay Focused and am trying out another browser extension called Strict Workflow, which employs the Pomodoro Method. We’ll see how it works.
Bonus Goal) Write another Meet Cute. I had hoped to get another one or two of them written during Round 2, but there was the outline revisions for TGMTY and…it just didn’t happen. I’ve got half a dozen ideas floating around in my brain, but so far none of the characters have piped up to talk at all. Not that it’s easy to be heard over Cam and Norah (my current hero and shero) at the moment. In a perfect world, I’d have one in mind when I finish the first draft of TGMTY and can work on it while TGMTY is out with my CPs for critique. But that’ll depend on how long it takes me to knock out this book. I’ve got 80 days and somewhere around 65-70k left to write, I think.
That’s pretty well it for me. Simple and straightforward.
