I Heart Guru.com

I’ve been kinda stressing about what to do about my cover art for Forsaken By Shadow.  All the folks I found via deviantart.com were out of my price range, and I really had no good grasp of how to go about finding a student or someone wanting to expand their portfolio and work for cheap.  What I really wanted was somewhere I could post what I wanted and then have people find ME (seems less stressful and time consuming that way).  Then someone mentioned Guru.com (thank you Zoe).  I hopped over and looked at the site, which connects employers with a million or more freelancers in all sorts of fields.   So I signed up for an employer account (free) and posted an ad detailing what I was looking for and the max I’m willing to pay for it.

This morning I woke up to 16 bids.

Now a couple of those I immediately deleted as it was obvious that they hadn’t read my post (giving me an estimate of $2500 proves you didn’t notice the $50 cap).  And a few more I deleted as I was unimpressed with the portfolio they offered.  But I still have a dozen remaining that I’m whittling through, waiting on samples, etc.  And the ad hasn’t even been up for 24 hours!  I’m going to give it another couple of days to see what other offers come in, but I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding someone who can do a better job of the cover than I can for a price I’m willing to pay.  Whee!

I’m also thinking of listing myself for copy editing services, perhaps to pick up a little extra cash.  In the current economy, if you’ve got a skill, this is a good place to list it to maybe pick up some side income.
